“Signs of Divinity are Hard to Read” - Dean Dass

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Dean Dass, Mt. St. Helens

Join us this Friday, April 3rd at the Garage from 5:00-7:00pm for Dean Dass’ opening of “Signs of Divinity are Hard to Read.”

For this installation, Dass has appropriated and altered photographs of clouds, springs, ash clouds, geysers, fissures, and so forth  – all are taken from scientific textbooks. The viewer reels from rather straightforward depictions of objective data to smeared and distorted pictures that defy representation. In these pictures it is very difficult to locate the image in relation to the surface of the print. Dass seems to suggest that nothing of importance can be understood. But undoubtedly everything is a sign, charged with a surfeit of meaning that mocks human understanding. Apparently, there are larger questions out there.

You don’t want to miss this show! See you Friday evening.
